myclimate: the new partner of dieci Pizza delivery

The Swiss foundation myclimate is promoting climate protection with sustainable projects. myclimate is therefore the right partner to support and accompany dieci in its efforts towards more sustainability.

It started with an analysis

In 2020, dieci decided to calculate its CO₂ balance for the company together with the myclimate foundation. To do this, all CO₂-relevant activities and usage to do with dieci pizza delivery were recorded and evaluated.

Action had to be taken

This analysis identified the scale of emissions produced in each area. This is the basis for the introduction of relevant measures for sustainable reduction of the CO₂ footprint.

Support the future with climate protection projects

After balancing our accounts, we made a decision to contribute to reductions in myclimate’s climate protection projects in the context of all CO₂ emissions that are currently unavoidable. We therefore take responsibility for all CO₂ emissions that arise during the production of dieci dishes as well as the associated services of our 43 pizza couriers, and we make an appropriate contribution to climate protection.

Certificate of contribution to climate protection

We are committing to a reduction of more than 15,504 tons of CO₂ in the following projects:

Climate-optimised forest management in the municipality of Grüsch (Grisons, Switzerland)

Through the reduced use of wood in a forest area in the municipality of Grüsch (GR) which climate-optimises forestry, CO₂ is thereby removed from the atmosphere in the long term and the forest is made more resistant. The «dieci Forest» in Grüsch is part of an overall project in the Prättigau & Davos area. Measures are taken not least in favour of biodiversity - for example, the habitat for the highly endangered capercaillie or the yellow-bellied toad is optimised and promoted close to nature with the aim of promoting species.

about the project

Back to the green island of Madagascar with energy-saving and solar cookers

myclimate supports the production and distribution of efficient stoves to reduce CO₂ emissions and counteract the rapid rate of deforestation in Madagascar.  People save time and money and benefit from better indoor air quality, while biodiversity benefits from reduced pressure on forests.

About the project

The concept of the myclimate foundation is very interesting. Read more here about how these projects combat climate change and prevent and reduce harmful emissions sustainably:

People are responsible

The global climate has been subject to fluctuations for millions of years. With the onset of industrialisation, we humans hugely increased the natural greenhouse effect and changed the composition of the atmosphere. The facts we currently know about climate change are a cause for concern: the average temperature worldwide has increased by around 1.2 °C, and this has even reached 2.5 °C in Switzerland in comparison with pre-industrial times.

The effects are dramatic

That may not sound a lot but small rises in temperature have already had far-reaching effects on humans and the environment: increasing sea levels, higher levels of heavy rainfall, melting of the glaciers, etc. Indirect consequences are, for example, growing famine and water crises, health risks due to the rise in air temperatures, and the loss of biodiversity.

Sustainable handling of resources and protection of the environment are particularly important to us. For nature is the basis of dieci products..

What does a contribution to climate protection achieve?

If greenhouse gas emissions cannot be avoided or reduced, climate protection projects help to save or reduce these emissions elsewhere. It does not matter for the climate where the greenhouse gases are actually emitted or avoided. Therefore, emissions created in one location can be offset by saving emissions in another more distant location. To reduce the emissions of a product or service, the actual amount of emissions that have an impact on the climate is calculated. The mechanism works through so-called CO₂ certificates, which reduce or avoid the same amount of emissions in climate protection projects. One certificate corresponds to one ton of greenhouse gases.

What are climate protection projects?

Climate protection projects promote the use of renewable energies, implement energy efficiency measures or reduce methane emissions. This can be achieved through technological advances, the filtering of greenhouse gases from power plants and production facilities, and also through reforestation and other appropriate agricultural measures. In addition to their climate protection effect, myclimate’s climate protection projects also contribute to sustainable social development in the region in question. The UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are identified for all projects.

Climate protection projects would not exist without the mechanism, as it is the additional funds from the mechanism that make it possible to initiate or expand a project. Nevertheless: avoid emissions in general, reduce them where possible and make a contribution to climate protection for those that are unavoidable.

About myclimate

myclimate is a partner for effective climate protection – globally and locally. Together with partners from business as well as private individuals, myclimate wants to shape the future of the world through advisory and educational services as well as its own projects. myclimate pursues this in a market-orientated and customer-focused way as a not-for-profit organisation.

With projects of the highest quality (Gold Standard and Plan Vivo) the Swiss foundation promotes climate protection that is measurable worldwide as well as sustainable development. Furthermore, myclimate encourages everyone to make a contribution to the future with action-centred and interactive educational services. myclimate is located in Zurich and also advises on integrated climate protection with tangible added value. This is carried out via IT solutions, awards, analyses and resource management.
