Pizza World Championship

17.11.2022

It's amazing how much pizzas have in common with the national football teams. We have looked through our wide range to see which pizza goes with which World Cup participant. So that you can be sure on match day which speciality is best suited to the game.

Pizza Kickiricki: France

For over 100 years, the French national team has worn a rooster on its jersey, the heraldic animal of Gaul. And for many years there has always been one in the stadium: Balthazar the rooster has seen over 300 games of the "Blues" and has become a lucky charm. If he crows before the game, France will win, so they say. Fans of the French can adapt this: before kick-off, have a Kickiricki pizza with Swiss curry chicken breast - and nothing can go wrong for Pogba, Griezmann and Mbappé.

Pizza Verde: Mexico

Mexico is the land of fajitas, burritos and tacos. The basis of this cuisine is mostly corn, beans, tomatoes, onions and avocado. Great dishes for vegetarians just like our Pizza Verde: broccoli and spinach, refined with Grana Padano shavings, give the pizza a colour reminiscent of the dark green jerseys of the Mexican national team.

Pizza Hawaii: Germany

The Pizza Hawaii polarises like no other. You love it - or you don't like it at all. This is exactly the case with the German national team: in Switzerland in particular, their great successes have earned them as many fans as enviers. Moreover, our northern neighbour has his own history with pineapple, ham and cheese: Toast Hawaii is a German invention.

Pizza Piccante: Uruguay

When the Uruguayan national team is in action, there's always lots of heat around. At the back, old warhorses like Diego Godín really let it rip in the duels, while Luis Suárez and Edinson Cavani are on fire up front. Hot heads are guaranteed. Just like our Pizza Piccante: with spicy salami and fresh peperoncini, you're right in the middle of a racy Uruguay match!

Pizza Calzone: Spain

With a Pizza Calzone, you usually know you're getting something delicious. And yet, until you cut open the fragrant crust, it remains a surprise. It's a similar story with the Spanish national team: countless superstars are on the field, and the "Furia Roja" is always one of the title candidates. But lately, the Spaniards have been going home from major tournaments much earlier than expected. Fans now want the same consistency that our Pizza Calzone offers: it's always a success!

Pizza Rucola: Brazil

Pure football is a pleasure on its own, just as our Pizza Margherita is a pleasure in its simplicity. With a few extras, it becomes something truly exquisite. With their dribblings, tricks and feints, the Brazilians turn football into an artistic show that sends the audience into raptures. Our Pizza Rucola, on the other hand, refines the basic recipe with rocket, cherry tomatoes and Grana Padano to delight the palate.

Pizza Occhio di Bue: Belgium

Belgium is an unusual country: there are three regions and three populations (the French, the Flemish and the German-speaking), but they do not have the same borders. A cultural jumble in a small space. In the national team, all this complements each other wonderfully. Our Occhio di Bue pizza comes pretty close: Swiss bacon and spinach overlap around the free-range fried egg in the middle, emblematic of Kevin De Bruyne, the midfield star who always has his eye on everything and everyone. "L'occhio del Belgio" (the eye of Belgium), so to speak.

Pizza Auguri: Argentina

People also eat with their eyes. That applies to football as well as to pizza. And hardly any national team looks as elegant as Argentina's, both visually and in terms of play. When Lionel Messi plays his sweet passes in his elegant light blue and white striped kit and Angel Di Maria serves up buttery crosses, you immediately feel like eating a pizza that can keep up with this elegance. Our Pizza Auguri with buffalo mozzarella, fresh basil, olives and bresaola is not only eye-catching, but also tastes delicious - especially alongside magic football.

Pizza Salmone Bianca: England

What does an English fan need during a football match? That's right: a portion of fish'n'chips. But a World Cup lasts almost a month, so even the most traditional among the "Three Lions" supporters need a change. Then how about our Pizza Salmone Bianca? With smoked Bömlo salmon, capers, red onions, but no tomato sauce, England is definitely a candidate for the finals!

Pizza Quattro Formaggi: Switzerland

When Xherdan Shaqiri scored a dream goal at the Euro 2016, when Granit Xhaka fired wide at the 2018 World Cup, when Yann Sommer blocked the last French penalty at the Euro 2021, Swiss football fans melted. Just like the cheese on our Quattro Formaggi pizza. Four different parts of the country, four different cheeses (Grana Padano, Gorgonzola, Mascarpone, Mozzarella) - this pizza fits the national team! By the way: while you can never get enough of Swiss victories, the Quattro Formaggi pizza fills you up nicely.

Pizza Trenta: USA

The USA and football: do they go together? You bet they do! Anyone who has witnessed the recent performances of the US boys and their spectacular matches at World Cups will confirm this, despite all the initial scepticism. Do potato slices, cime di rape (Italian stem cabbage) and gorgonzola work on a pizza? Anyone who has tried our Pizza Trenta will realise: at least as well as the USA and football!
